Ellis Court

We are delighted that our recent development at Ellis Court, one of the first purpose-built Dublin Corporation flat complexes, constructed in the 1880s, has been awarded the Conservation Award for a Single Building Development at last night’s Building and Architect of the Year Awards 2023. Congratulations to Coady Architects and to all the team involved in this wonderful project.

The Conservation and restoration of period properties can often be a highly complex task due to the unique challenges and requirements involved in working with historical buildings. Those working on projects of this nature must have a thorough understanding of the building's historical context, architecture, and construction techniques. This knowledge is critical to ensuring that any restoration work is carried out in a manner that is respectful of the building's heritage and preserves its historic character,

As contractors, we must work within the constraints of the building's age and condition. This can include dealing with often unforeseen structural issues, restoring delicate features, and working with materials and methodologies that may no longer be commonly used in modern construction.

The importance of preserving our historic structures for future generations cannot be overstated, making the work of conservation and restoration an especially important one for us here at Principal. We are proud of our expertise in conservation projects and our commitment to adhering to strict conservation guidelines, often working with numerous specialized conservation professionals to ensure that all our conservation projects are carried out to the highest of standards.

The project has also been included on the shortlist for the 2023 RIAI Public Choice Award. We are delighted to see that Ellis Court has been included in such an extensive list of quality projects from around the country and wish good luck to all the participants.
